Sony Now Focus On Mobile,Sell-off VAIO PC
Sony will attempt to put its account book on the green light by getting rid of its Vaio range of consumer PC’s.Japanese consumer electronics giant Sony has entered into agreement to sell its Vaio PC business to Japan Industrial Partners Inc, a Japanese investment firm.

The company has been in the red books, struggling with its TV and PC business line. Sony Computer Entertainment has been the sustaining arm of the entire Sony body which led to reforms that will make the company competitive against the likes of Samsung and Apple.

In 2006 when the PlayStation 3 was launched, Sony suffered financially, losing $50-$200 on every console sold. Lot of questions were asked but left unanswered. It seems Sony is unwilling to take another risk as its PC sales have been unable to meet the company’s expectations.

Like Microsoft, Sony will be looking for ways to become relevant in the mobile markets. It will continue to research and innovate in the areas of smartphones and tablets.

Paperwork for the deal that will authorize to take-over of Sony’s Vaio PC business by Japan Industrial Partners Inc. will be filled out next month as both companies are reportedly finalizing the Terms and Conditions.

In July 2013, Sony TV business will be turned into a wholly owned subsidiary. This is part of Sony’s aggressive “reform strategy” and you can expect some level of layoffs to be associated with this development.
