The Dutch anti-piracy outfit BREIN has recently obtained a court order to close down the operator of a proxy site.
The above mentioned proxy website is tpb.dehomies.nl. After the Court of The Hague ruled in favor of the pro-copyright organization, the operator is now bound to close down the site. In case the service fails to comply, it will have to pay a $1,700 fine per each day that passes.
Besides this, the anti-piracy outfit also won a couple of important legal battles with Holland’s largest Internet service providers, forcing them to block access to the BitTorrent tracker The Pirate Bay. Nevertheless, just as the experts predicted, Internet users have found various ways to get access to the tracker, including the method of using different proxy servers.
After successfully shutting down one of the proxy operators, the anti-piracy outfit has sent out letters to a number of other sites providing similar services and threatened them with legal action in case of them continuing their operations.
Tim Kuik, the director of BREIN, has claimed during the interview that if the operators of the proxy websites didn’t comply with their request, the outfit would keep them responsible for damages.
